Precise CO₂e emissions reporting for multimodal transport at scale

Jerich International partnered with shipzero to overcome manual, time-consuming CO₂e reporting and meet growing customer demand for precise, shipment-level emissions data. By automating emissions calculations using real transport data, Jerich can now deliver accurate, standardized CO₂e reports at the push of a button. The solution reduced internal effort, improved data quality, and strengthened Jerich’s sustainability offering.

Summary

Jerich International faced increasing customer demands for precise CO2e emissions reporting at the shipment level – a time-consuming and resource-intensive challenge. By partnering with shipzero, they implemented an automated, scalable emissions management system that processes large data volumes and maps multimodal transports.

Through structured data enrichment and interface integration, Jerich International now delivers individualized CO2e reports at the push of a button, with clarification cases dropping from double digits to low single-digit percentages. Customers respond with extremely positive feedback to the automatically generated, detailed emissions reports.

Jerich International uses shipzero to:

·     Automate precise CO2e emissions reporting at the shipment level for multimodal transports, eliminating time-consuming manual calculations

·     Process large shipment and data volumes through a verified, unified, and scalable system with automatic data transfer via existing interfaces

·     Deliver individualized customer reports regularly and at the push of a button, reducing clarification cases from double digits to low single-digit percentages

·     Simulate decarbonization potential for individual transport routes to offer customers increasingly environmentally friendly transport solutions

Challenge

Rising customer demands for detailed Scope 3 emissions data were difficult to meet with limited resources, as manual reporting attempts proved time-consuming and unsatisfactory.

Solution

shipzero implemented automated data transfer through existing interfaces, enriched datasets through structured processes, and enabled precise emissions calculations for multimodal transports at the shipment level.

Challenge: Increasing requests for professional emissions reporting

Logistics customers are increasingly requesting detailed reports on transport emissions. These verifications are time-consuming and costly. Jerich International's customers were being asked about their Scope 3 emissions by their own customers, wanting to know precisely how large their carbon footprint is from transport, storage, and handling activities. For individual transport route tenders, CO2e emissions were increasingly becoming a decisive criterion.

These rising customer requirements for precise emissions data were difficult to meet with the company's limited resources. Initial attempts to create emissions reports themselves using online tools proved time-consuming and unsatisfactory. Jerich International wanted to implement a verified, unified, and scalable system that could process large shipment and data volumes and map multimodal transports.

Solution: Detailed emissions calculations for multimodal transports at the shipment level

After thorough examination of the available data, automatic data transfer was first implemented through existing interfaces. Missing exact address information initially made it difficult to distinguish between tours and shipments or orders. However, by linking transport and master data, exact customer warehouse locations could be identified.

In a structured process, shipzero enriched the datasets accordingly. The system now correctly calculates emissions per transport segment from the starting to the receiving freight forwarder. Jerich International can now reliably, regularly, and at the push of a button send CO2e reports to their customers with detailed emissions data at the shipment level for multimodal transports.

Results: Streamlined reporting with exceptional customer feedback

Jerich International can now correctly calculate emissions per transport segment from the starting to the receiving freight forwarder and reliably, regularly, and at the push of a button send CO2e reports. Customers appreciate the automatically and frequently created reports with extremely positive feedback.

"The number of cases requiring clarification has dropped from double digits to a low single-digit percentage. This is enormous progress that significantly relieves our internal processes."

Outlook: Staying committed despite relaxing regulations

Despite possible relaxation of legal requirements, Jerich International remains true to its sustainability efforts: “We are continuing on this path – postponed does not mean canceled,” Zach affirms the long-term strategy.

Jerich International wants to increasingly offer its customers alternative, more environmentally friendly transport solutions. The partnership with shipzero can play a key role in achieving these ambitious sustainability goals and further strengthening the company’s position as a responsible logistics service provider by helping Jerich International understand and manage sustainability risk along complex, multimodal transport chains..
